One gun for everything, 12ga. That should cover everything from ducks to dove. As far as style, that is up to you and what you like. Auto are great and doubles are too. I would stay with the 12 and find what you shoot best.

12 ga or 20 it is what you like....
I have both 20 ga pump and several 12's auto - (I can shoot the pump as fast as you can shoot the auto's (practice) I tend to be more accurate with the pump than the auto)
- If you can afford it get something which will shoot mags or at least 3" 3.5 for pass shooting of waterfowl,/esp geese or turkeys the 3 3.5 will give you a little more
my son will shoot a 1187 3.5" with a turkey choke ....
