Default How is the hunting in Kansas

How is the pheasant hunting going in the rest of Kansas. In the southcentral part of the state it has been hard going the past two weeks. My dog (a 15 month old black lab) and I have walked great ground for over 20 hours the past two weekends. I have one bird in the bag and lost one I knocked down as it went over a dike. Still very dry around here in Sunmer county. I hope you are having more luck than me. The sunsets have been great.

The hunting in McPherson county is going pretty good. We haven't limited out or anything, but we always get into quite a few birds. Opening weekend we got about 30 birds between saturday and sunday, but we haven't been hunting in this area since then. The second weekend of pheasant season we went to Hill City and WOW! there is a TON of birds over there. We had alot of luck. We started with about 20 guys saturday morning, but then hunted with eight the rest of the weekend and we bagged about 60 pheasant and 8 quail. That was a lot of fun. Then my fmaily back in Cimarron (Gray County) say the hunting out there is amazing as well. I had some friends go hit two walk in hunting spots in the morning and limited out. There's a lot of birds around. We were pretty dry opening weekend around McPherson county, but after the snow we aren't anymore.

I was just in Ottawa county last week and there are a ton of birds around. To hunt them though, you need to have 2 groups hunting. One to push and one to block. They're running and flushing way ahead of us and the dog. Even after the snow, they were flushing 60-70 yards ahead of the dog! I saw over 100 birds in 2 days of hunting and only managed to bag 2! Good luck guys!
