I am using a Remington 870 Wingmaster 16ga, with Federal Hi Power 1 1/8oz Number 6 2 3/4" shells.

40 paces...7 bb's in the head, none in the vitals, but I had a group of bb's (14 in a 4" circle) to the lower left, so that could have been my fault...Over 30 in a 10" circle..

30 paces...9 bb's in the head, and again a group to the left of the head (had 4 kill bb's) over 60 in a 10" circle

20 paces...30+ bb's in the head, all scattered around it...over 80 in a 10" circle


If i had more bb's in the 40 pace range, would it have enough power to take out a turkey?

reguardless I'd say my effective range is in the 25-30 pace category (roughly 30-35 yards, i got big steps)

So...do you think I'd have enough oomph to take out a turkey at 40yards?

If your getting 7 bb's at 40 paces( roughly 50 yards??!!), that is awesome for a 16 ga, heck, for a 12 guage thats awesome!! Even if you dont hit him in the brain, and you get 7 in the head, that will break his neck, but chances are, your will put at least 1 in the skull. I would have to say that that will be plenty of knockdown power, if you want to be sure, upgrade to the federal HEAVYWEIGHTS, a # 5 or # 6 (equivalant to a #3 and #4 lead weight-wise), and you'll get more bb's that are heavier, and carry more energy further.

These are federal "Hi-Power" shells....that's really that good? I was shooting a Mossberg 835 Ulti-mag and had something like 20 or 30 bbs in the head at 30 yards...and I think the paces were closer to yards...as we marked it off before, and i was close... Im pumped now, thanks.
