Default What Causes A Tom Not To Gobble ?

I have been hunting public land in NC.

And I have seen turkeys at least four times.

The hens don't make a sound either.

I know there are toms because some of them were spitting & drumming.

There is a lot of coyote signs every where could that be the reason?

Or could it be something else ?

Its like that a mile from there also.

Thank You

The coyotes could have something to do with it but it's not real likely. Also the time of day. Where I hunt turkeys gobble their heads off in the morning and then shut up most of the day until right before roost I start to hear a few again.

What causes a tom not to gobble?

I aint for sure but I suspect the answer lies somewhere near the same reason as too why our wives don't want sex every single night!

If you have EITHER toms or wives 100% spot on figured out, you my friend have fallen for their ploys and are to be thereby officially certified as NUTS! []

NEVER take silence as the final answer and the fun is in the pursuit right?

I doesn't matter what time of day they just don't make any sounds.

Hens or Toms.

Maybe it is the coyotes or weather.

The world might never know lol

My 3 1/2" magnums have been known to cause Toms to "not gobble."

If you're seeing gobblers accompanied by hens, then they have no reason to gobble on their own once they fly down. They will still shock gobble if you hit 'em with the right note.

I think that it could be a combination of hunting pressure (public land) and thay have the hens with them and do not need to "gobble" up any, they will just drum up thier hens instead. If there is a way to pattern the movements of these birds you should be able to flop one.
