Default Gobble, Gobble, Gobble, Turkey on the table

Well Turkey season is open in Tennessee and me and my partner went this morning. The morning was beautiful but in the high 30's and the birds had lockjaw because we heard NOTHING all morning until we decided to set down in a small area where we had some success last year. My partner and I started doing a little calling and we heard a bird gobble ONE time on a ridge about us ...we continued to work the bird with a slate call and here he comes down the ridge. We got to see this bird work through the woods towards our decoys and it came with in 20 yards of me before I busted him. The bird was just a jake with a 5in beard but it was better then a sharp stick in the eye and after the TUFF hunt I was very satisfied we even saw a bird much less get a shot. Here is a pictures ...

Hey congrats on a fine bird. I`m from Tn also and was wondering what part you were from? From the looks of the pics it was a sunny day somewhere. I never saw the sun the whole day, in fact , I sat in the snow for about an hour and a half.

Default Good looking bird Doc....

I live just down the road from you in Athens. I haven't gotten my bird yet, but I'm trying. I had one gobble at me a couple of times Saturday, but it shut up pretty quick like it had gotten with some hens.

I went to Bankhead this morning and as luck would have it, went to my spot and hooted like an owl and had another hunter answer my hoot back from not very far away. I went to another spot to scout out some other areas and found a plot that was being used pretty heavily. Lots of hen droppings and a few gobbler droppings.

I will be glad that the season finally opens here in Limestone County this Saturday. Hopefully can get one close to home.

By the way I like your quote from Coach Bryant, It's real appropriate when it comes to turkey hunting.
