Calling Question
this is my second year into turkey hunting so everything is new to me...my question is about calling..... season opens march 15 here and last sunday, the 6th, a friend of mine said that we should go listen to the woods, so we went to the spot where i killed a bird before and constantly saw birds during deer season.... after sunrise we didn't hear any birds gobble coming off of the roost but we saw 3 gobblers within an hour come through the same area and yet they never gobbled and we never heard a hen... is it too early in the season for the birds to be "ready" for me to call to them or should i just wait it out and let the birds come to me like they did when i was scouting?

RE: Calling Question
it should not be too early i would not call to them until the season opens you dont want to educate them if you feel confident in that area i would go back for the opener if possible go back on the evening before and try to roost them birds lone gobblers are succeptible to being called in do not know how long they will be alone though good luck

If your opener is on the 15th It must be in Mississippi. If there not gobbling on the opener setup in their travel pattern just like you did when you scouted. Setup a decoy and call. They will probably come in. Toms gobble their heads off on day and the next they can be closed mouth even during the middle of the season. It always seems to me when the dogwoods bloom the toms are gobbling. I am hunting in Mississippi but won't make it out until that friday. Hopefully it will warm between then and now.
