Default Best time to start scouting for turkeys

I've been out a few times looking at some new ground but I haven't seen any turkeys. What is the best way to scout and find turkeys before the season opens?

Tracks of course,if you don't see any now don't be discouraged. This time of year they are in big flocks,so its all or none.As soon as somewarm weather arrives, they will be gobblin!

Listening for early morning gobbles is the best way to scout IMO. I listen for them to gobble on their own, and will use an owl and crow call too. As I'm walking old logging roads and field edges first thing in the a.m., I'm also constantly on the lookout for tracks, droppings, dusting areas, etc. There is nothing like hearing him gobble though....and it gives you a good idea of where he likes to roost, which is key.
