Check with your local sport shop they should be able to set you up.
Are you using a scope for tukey hunting??
I would use open sight's for it if that was what your plan was.

I only know of two companies that make Mossy Oak camo scopes. Burris and Pentax both make camo scopes that are almost identical. The Burris is a little cheaper, but I think you'll be happy with either. Either way, a scope is a great addition to a turkey gun. With todays modern tight chokes and loads they are a no-brainer. Good luck!

Easy PBB!!!I could fill this thread until tomorrow with pic's of birds that were taken without the addition of a scope!Ram96 I'm sure PBB gives good advice on your choices of scopes ,but its certainly not a requirement to be a better turkey hunter!Dont lay the ethical thing on me either because those of us who still shoot fiber optics and open sights can still know the limits and capabilties of our own firearm!I'll garuntee at 35 yards you wont kill your bird any deader than mine PBB,so lighten up on us idiots who still like to call em close!!

Thanks Guys

I am looking at the Winchester Buck & Tom. The scope is more for deer season.

I'm not here to sling mud but I have to agree with BOB. I lost two birds in the fall and 1 in the spring because of a scope. They flew up in front of me and I couln't find them in time. I think if you are shure that all of your shots are going to be on the ground, scopes are a good accesory. But my turkey gun is set up any ready for any possible shooting situation. Thats why I choose to use fiber optics.

A scoped shotgun for deer hunting???? Come on get real, you don't need a scope on your shotgun, after all, what's the longest you're going to shoot, 100 yds if that???? If you can't hit a deer at 100yds with a shotgun , no offense, you should stay home.....try the Tru-Glow fibre optic sights.....better than any darn scope out there..........I have them on both my turkey & deer (slug) barrels. Just my .02 cents worth & by the way, i've taken both turkey & deer with the Tru-Glows on!

Tough Crowd!

I guess for my tired old eyes a cantalever barrel and scope make me a better shot when deer hunting. I didn't realize I should stay home because I need/use a scope to deer hunt. I've also added a scope to my turkey gun. I have unfortunately missed several birds inside of 35 yards because of being turned at bad angles or shooting low crossing limbs that my gun barrel blocked out. I realize there are disadvantages to having the scope on the gun but in my particular case I feel like the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I'm not a very good wingshot so hitting a flying turkey with a .665 choke tube is really not a consideration for me. I only shoot at flying birds if I have knocked them down and feel like I have crippled them. I'm hoping the scope will drastically reduce the need for those shots. I am considering adding some tru-glo sights for rainy days as I consider that one of the biggest disadvantages to using a scope. I think I would prefer an adjustable set of sights, what model do you use?

Thanks,
Doug

I didn't realize my info would cause such hostile replies. Bob, I don't believe I said it was requirement to become a better turkey hunter, nor did I say my bird would be deader than yours. Maybe you should re-read my post. My opinion wasn't as strong as you make it out to be. By the way, wheres all the other scope using members? I feel so alone. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Doug no offense to anyone here, and by no means do I hold anything against any turkey hunter who scopes there gun!I'm all for if it gives you more confidence in what your doing than you'll hunt harder for it!Do I believe scopes are a necessity for todays turkey gun, personally no I dont. Now dont get me wrong in your situation I do beleive it is the way to go.Low light conditions in the early morning hours coupled with bad eyesight,a scope may be the ticket for a much clearer shot.Jay Langston one of Turkey & Turkey Huntings editors recently wrote an article dealing with turkeygun scopes that was quite interesting in that a survey taken by the NWTF revealed that the median age for male turkey hunters was 46 and at least 90% of males older than 40 need some type of vision correction. So with this in mind no question for many such as yourself a scope may help improve your ability to center your target much easier! Now for the rest of us who aren't vision impaired I do not see the need for a scope on my turkey gun.I've owned 3 over alot of years turkey hunting and I've missed a gobbler a time or two and I can assure you it was not the guns fault but &quot;yours truly&quot;!Simply put I misjudged the distance!I hear all the time a scope will center your pattern everytime, but I never had any trouble with all 3 guns I owned hitting the center of the target on paper or in the field. We can go round and round about why one would scope his gun but in my opinion the real reason lies in the fact hunters are continually looking for ways to extend the killing range of their firearm.I remember not all that long ago the standard was around the 30 to 35 yard mark that hunters safely harvested there birds, but obviously with modern day chokes, scopes, and loads that standard has risen.I hear 45,50 and alot greater distances now that hunters wouldn't hesitate to shoot a gobbler. If thats what you want than more power to you,but for myself call me old fashion but I still like to fool an old woodwise gobbler in close.Year after year I see the evolution of our scatter guns turning more like rifles! Its amazing to me those who put so much emphasis on tighter patterns at incredible downrange distances yet look down on those that hunt them with rifles.I just wonder how much longer it will be till the scatter gun will be able to reach out and touch ole gobbler at a 100 yards!Sure would solve alot of those tough field and pasture gobbler problems! I'll stick to the challenge of huntin ole gobbler and callin in him close instead of how far my gun can shoot cause thats the high for me!Bob
