Default Rumors of New Michigan hunting rules, dose this work?

I am a resident of Michigan and have heard rumors that our DNR is thinking about making Turkey Season like pheasent season (1 turkey a day for the season). I am asking if any other state has this type of season? If you do, dose it control or desimate the population. Currently we have a lottery system with limited licences avalible. Michigans Turkey population is great right now. (my opinion) I was able to take a 9.5"/18lbs in the spring and a 11.5"/22lbs this fall, letting a lot of other good turkeys walk. It seems like our DNR likes to give licences out with the farmers and insurance companies in mind and not the animal population in mind. I understand the almighty $ controls the majority but it seems to me that this type of season would not help the population.

I will repeat this is just a rumor so far. let me know what you all think.

HUA,To go from a lottery for tags to a turkey a day is somethin I really can't see happenin. It would sure be rough on the turkey population.

Well I for one can see this happening.

Michigan went from 3 season dates to which you needed a carcass tag for any one season to more seasons added to select seasons and now a general season to which anyone even outa staters like me can get a guaranteed permit.

I do not think the DNR will allow more than two kill tags for anyone at this point as the population will not tolerate this.

But I do see them opening the whole thing up like the late general season and issueing a permit to open up the whole 50-60 some odd days. But it would be similar as no one hunter wold be allowed more than one bird for the length of the season - is what I think they will do.

Now I wold not like to see this. I like my limited number of hunters on opening date. Yes I am like I said an Outa State Hunter - and yes I usually get a permit and have for the last 17 yrs.

JW,I can see them doin what you said.Where each hunter would be limited to one bird for the whole season.Maybe I misunderstood the post I thought HUA meant a bird per day .

We have a 1 turkey per day limit in Mississippi. But we ALSO have a 3 per year limit as well. And no jakes. That may be the rest of the story.

Our system has worked well so far. And the "no Jakes" law has increased the # of eager 2-year-olds out there.
