Need mouth calling help

<font size=6>PRACTICE</font id=size6>
When I was about twelve, I went to a store and saw a mouth call. I bought it and took it home. I had never used one before, but I wanted to be able to. I just went home, put it in my mouth and practice for about 3 hours straight. I finally got the hang of it after about 2 1/2 hours. It took me another year of practice to get really good at it. Now, I would consider myself to be a MASTER of the mouth call. I am not big headed, but I am really really really good with a mouth call. It is almost impossible to learn by reading stuff. Heck, I have been trying to get my best friend to master a mouth call for over a year now. It is HARD to do, and it takes alot of practice. I naturally just picked it up. This isn't the case in most situations. Just don't give up, a mouth call is an excellent call to have. It is just as important as having a box and slate call.

DON'T RELY ON TRYING TO LEARN ON JUST ONE CALL
YOU MAY OR MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SOUND GOOD ON ONE
PARTICULAR CALL---SINGLE REED, TWO, THREE, SPLITS, V'S,ETC..
PICK UP THREE OR FOUR DIFFERENT TYPES AND PRACTICE..PRACTICE...
PRACTICE. TRIMMING THE CALL TO FIT YOU HELPS A BUNCH

Hey Buck Magnet,
I need help on making the "purr" sound. What advice can you give me. I have the H.S. Strut video Mouth Calling 101 and thought it was a very helpful video on mouth calling. I'm using the tip about making the "machine gun" sound with your tounge and I'm getting the purr but, I can't get that little soft note after the purr. Any suggestions? Should the tounge be back on the call alot?
Thanks in advance

One tip I got from a video, don't try to make turkey calls right away. Practice making different tones & pitches. Once you can go from low to high and back down realtively smoothly, try a few yelps. Listen to tapes, videos, CD's etc.
I'm practicing purring now, and not very good at it.
