Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default 20 gauge or 12 gauge

I was wondering if the 20 gauge has the power to reach out there and take a turkey at about 40 yards. I have never shot a 20 gauge, only a 12....is it best to just stick with a 12

I use a 20 ga with a heavy turkey load but even then 40 yrds is pushing it a bit. you don't want to wound him.

I would stick to the 12. I use a 12 with 3" mags.

A twenty gauge is fine unless you want to push the range. That being said, my son killed a bird with a 20ga. using 3 in. #5 HeviShot at 55 yds this year. Last year, another son killed one stone dead at 30 yds with a twenty gauge, 28 in. full choke barrel, and 2 3/4 in. #6s. We killed a bunch of birds the last couple years with 20 gauges, but I'd stick with a 12 if I had to choose.
