10 Gauge Shooters - Input Please?
Hi everyone. I'm thinking about getting one of the new Browning Gold Light 10 shotguns to use for turkey and goose hunting. This gun has a lighter weight receiver so it should be a little easier to carry in the woods. - - - Anyway can the 10 gauge hunters please tell me what advantages they've found in using this gauge for turkey hunting? Thanks, - - Pointshoot

If you have the money to spend on it, then do it. You really get the extra shot especially with the custom loads. I push 3 ounces of lead out the barrel with each shot. I can get about 10 extra yards with this gun.
But you must understand, I did some consulting work and got about half of the price knocked off of my SP10. If it weren't for that, I'd probably still be using my old Rem 870 12 GA.
Also, the lighter gun will definitely have some recoil with heavy turkey loads. 1 3/4 ounce duck loads I can shoot all day long, but the 3 ounce babies... no way! And that's with a relatively heavy gun. Won't matter in the woods, but it can affect your patterning if you're not careful.
No jakes!

I have shot an Ithica mag 10 for almost 20 years now and you couldn't pry it out of my hands with a crowbar! Its accounted for not only waterfowl and turk's but alot of fox and coyote too!Confidence is everything to me and that was my real reason for purchasing the gun.I didn't buy it to extend my barrel but I will say the thought of sendin 2 1/16 ounces of lead traveling at 1280fps does bring a smile to face knowing what it will do to gobbler at 35 yards!I load my own turkey loads and could make them even heavier and faster but with the pattern I'm throwing now I'm very satified. If your looking at wanting to shoot a 3 1/2 inch gun than buy a 10.Its much more comfortable than a 3 1/2 inch 12.Weight and an automatic will take alot of the recoil out.My wife can shoot mine. The downrange energy you can get from some of the faster 10 guage loads is quite incredible especially when you can see it work first hand on an animal like a coyote. The 10 obviously isn't for everyone but personally for me its the right choice. Its all about what your confident in and like 10 point said when that gobbler is inside 40 yards he aint gettin back up once I let the hammer down. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

i recently got a remington sp-10. dont have much info to offer as of yet but i will be extensivly testing it in the next few weeks to come. im kinda in the same situation as 10bore, i won mine in a gun raffle so if i had to spend $1200 on a shotgun i probably would still be shooting my mossberg 835, which shoots very well, in fact better as of now than my 10 ga.

I have the Browning BPS 10 gauge and it is only my turkey gun. I love it and with the xfull turkey choke it gives me a great pattern. I just wanted the extra shot at first and then with as good as it shot I stuck with it. I am this year putting a Simmons 30mm Red Dot scope on it, it has not got here yet so I will report on the results when I get it.

Steelshooter - is your Gold 10 one of the new Light models? If so, what length barrel and how is it to carry? Thanks & Good Hunting, - - Pointshoot

I just bought a Browning Gold 10ga and I just love it. I can't wait till season opener. Why would anyone want a 12ga 3 1/2 when you can get the real thing...a 10ga.
