Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Second scouting report--Saturday's the big day!!

Yesterday I went to my super secret spot scouting again. I brought my camera, but, like an idiot, I forgot to bring it along when I went in the woods.

I walked the edge between a wooded draw and a field, listening for turkeys. I rounded a bend, near dark, and spied 6-7 turkeys ahead of me in the field, facing my way, so I slipped off the field and down into the ravine, just over the bank, and laid down flat on my back to see if those turkeys would pass my way. Remember, it is near dark, so the birds would be looking to roost pretty soon.

As I lay there, not moving, I could hear the birds walking in the field right behind me. I didn't dare move. Suddenly, I heard the loud flapping of wings, and a hen flew right over me into a tree down the draw (about 75 yards from where I was laying). Then another, and another, all right over the top of my head. I lost count at about 20, and don't know if they were all hens or if some were toms, too.

That was exciting!!! Then, two toms gobbled twice and then three times. They were still standing in the field and must have been within five feet of my head, right on the edge of the draw!!! Then they flew into the draw to roost, too.

I hope they are still using that area for roostin on Saturday!!

Sounds like you got it all wrapped up. I'm guesing you should be sitting pretty good come opening morning. Of course those Turkeys might just be leading you on. Sounds like you had an exciting adventure. Good Luck to you Saturday.

Yeah, and I just know they'll be shut-mouthed and henned up come Saturday, just because I had such an exciting scouting experience. In fact, that's probably a certainty as to the shut-mouthed aspect, because the temperature is going to drop from highs of mid-60s to highs of 40s between now and Saturday. Hopefully, the birds will still be hanging around that part of the woods/draw, anyway, and even if they don't gobble, maybe I can intercept one as it cruises/feeds.
