The news continues to be mixed here in NC. This will be my first season in this state. Being new always makes it tough, but this is looking bleak. The public land is showing some small signs of birds, but nothing to get excited about.
The hunt club that I joined that has turkeys has little to no sign on it. I have seen 2 hens and a few tracks, etc... but not much.
The positive I did a lot of scouting today. I saw about 5 flocks of birds on land that I can't hunt. Flocks anywhere from 5 birds to 25 birds, but again I don't have permission. The few places that have posted signs for clubs I have already ruled out. They are not taking new members. The other places I'll spend some time searching for landowners, but I know this is probably a futal effort. Can't help but try though!
I have been taken aback at how difficult it is to find a hunt club that needs members around this area. It is looking like I'll be hunting the public ground in 2004.

Ryan, This will be my first year hunting Gobblers in NC also. The guy I'll be hunting with has been scouting them and says that it looks very good. I wish you luck. Pat

Yea, I am way down here in Wilmington. I would love to find a decent lease around me, but it is looking more and more like I am going to have to head North. Shoot me an e-mail I would love to try and get together. [email protected]

Thanks for the offer! I am not above paying to hunt, actually I would prefer to get on a high quality long term lease with someone, but I just haven't had luck at it yet. I'll keep looking until I find something. Until them I'll hammer those boys on public property.
