RE: do you shoot steel or lead for turkeys
I shoot the Winchester Supreme copper plated lead shot #6's 3 1/2" mag. I don't buy into the Hevi shot because of the high price tag that I can use the $$ on something else and I'm quite happy with my pattern at 35yds. If I need to shoot further than that, I look into getting my rifle out. As far as the steel shot duck loads for turks, I'd stay away from them. You could take the choke out of the gun that has a lead only choke. Also, lead is more dense hence more effective on a large turkey. The only reason steel is used on water fowl and pheasents is because of lead poisoning they were getting by actually consuming the lead shot. Also in some states it is not legal to use steel shot in the woods (on the ground) because of the timber industry in the area. If it is not a state law, a lot of lands leased from timber companies have that in the lease contracts due to messing up their sawing equipment.
