Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Why use #7 shot or have it in a blend?

I have shot enough from 40yd to 50yds to know how much you lose in your pattern. I don't need to go to 60yds for I for one don't intend to shoot that far.

Exactly!

I would say that's probably very accurate. Now if I were to shoot my 835 with my good lot of 300325 3.5" #7's at 60yds, I may getting a decent above 100 pattern in the 10" But like Todd said that is getting out there for 7's. But I would speculate if the pattern was there and hit the vitals of the head and neck that you probably would have a dead bird. But I don't recommend it.

And that's providing if the temp is 75 degrees and I can get this same results here.

Then I would say it could happen, but I wouldn't recommend it. And very few guns and chokes will shoot 7's that well. That probably would be around 160 in the 10" at 60yds if we approximate. I shot that shot last Spring 1 shot to make sure my dot sight was still on.

Oh and that pattern above was witnessed buy Mark. H and his son Spencer H. at his son's house. And they also helped me tape the yardage. That's 120 ft exactly from tip of choke to target. Temp was 75 degrees.

Ok here me out fellas I feel we have become more civil and full circle on this discussion. Going back to the original intent. Assuming I can get acceptable patterns with 5s at 50 yards I feel that I do maybe not 100 in a 10 inch circle but I can't imagine a bird getting through the pattern.

I realize you feel 60 pellets in the spine is better than 30 but the turkey can only be so dead. At least follow this logic as you stated you would not trust 7s energy at 60 yards and assuming I kill 100 percent of birds at 50 yards with 5s then ultimately what has 7s added. And we have all agreed that 5s carry much more energy so one could argue that it give you a better chance to kill that bird at 60 plus. You have both admitted 7s don't have the needed energy. This is not meant to change your minds or argue just trying to show you my original logic and even if you disagree you can at least acknowledge the argument.

A side note to all of this is I believe #7s are illegal in some states for turkeys not sure how a blend would fall into that umbrella. Some states shot size must be 4-5-6

If you can get acceptable patterns at 50 yards with Hevi-13 5's then great. The problem is that most folks can't . What 7's add is a much better chance of getting an acceptable pattern with shot that will still penetrate deep enough to kill.

Hevi-13 6's would be a much better choice for numbers at 50yds and still give you close to 80 to 100 hits in the 10" vs the 5's.

And we can talk all you want pal. Maybe Todd and I can help you if your willing to listen. We don't know it all, but we are pretty sharp when it comes to patterning.

Take this pattern that Todd shot. That should still be good for 100 to 120 hits in the 10" at 50yds with plenty of power to shoot plum through the head and neck of a turkey at 50yds. 5's simply won't give you the numbers that 6's will at 50yds. So why shoot the Hevi-13 5's?
