I haven't had any problems, but a couple years ago I was hunting with my father and called a big tom in. There were a few deer around but they weren't spooked. Anyway, when this tom came in, some deer started walking towards us. The big tom was coming in close, but so where the deer. The turkey came in, 25 yards at the most, from my father, and guess what? That deer walked in between them. He couldn't shoot. The deer wasn't 10-15 yards from him and the tom was on the other side strutting an gobbling. I couldn't beleive it. He never did get a shot at the tom. Said, the only way he could of hit it, was by shooting under the deer. It was some back luck. Anybody else have any trouble with deer while turkey hunting?

My brother and I were working a bird last year off the roost. The bird didn't seem interested at first, but after he had been on the ground for about 20min. he started responding more and headed our way. He was about 50yds just over a rise where we couldn't see him. At about the same time we thought he was about to show himself because we could here him coming a doe and a fawn pop over the rise. The bird had not spooked yet, but the deer had walked right past him. The doe and fawn ended up downwind, and you guessed it, they bolted right back over the rise straight at the bird. We didn't hear him again.

I have the problem all the time. I think if the States opened up Deer season for one spring, along with Turkey season then maybe the deer would become Call Shy ! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>...BT

I have had deer smell me, then bust out a snort and scare the bird I was working away. I am a firm believer of deer and turkeys paying attention to each other in the woods. So since then I make it a point to "smell" when I go out, like putting on some aftershave or cologne before I go out. Sounds kind of corny, But I haven't had anymore trouble with the deer. And smelling this way doesn't hurt when the wife goes with me either![}:]

Just a couple springs ago I had a young buck walk right up to my decoys. He snorted and jumped back... then he approached them again and finally bolted.

Last season, opening day. We had birds working us, then I hear what I know is too big to be a turkey walking toward us from behind me. Sure enough, doe and a yearling walked up to about 5 yards from me, spooked eventually, then bolted out of there taking the birds with them!! Maybe you do need to go scent proofed to hunt turkeys, just so the deer don't smell you out!!
