it really depends on time of year and birds prefference at that time...your best bet is to have both of them and make sure you don't buy really cheap calls...get something middle price range and use them both to see which ones work.

you might have ten birds that love that box on one day and hate in the afternon never limit your self to one specif call depending on the day there is times i will carry 4 different slate calls
another thought too is the wind box on a windy day could be your best friend
