Stacy, I do that every single spring!! You can never have enough spots to go to!! I approach the landowner and ask him right out if it's possible to hunt spring turkey on his land. No sense in beating around the bush, say what's on you mind, but not in a cocky way. He's going to think for a second and then he's going to say one of two things, either yes or no. Some landowners mention that they want to hunt for the first two weeks of the season themselves, but the second half of the season is ok. I always mention that I'm the type of guy who always likes to ask for permission to hunt before hand, instead of just walking onto someone's property. This approach seems to work for me!! If for some reasson he still says NO, try the very next landowner down the road. Turkeys have great hearing!! Nothing wrong with calling them over to a piece of land you &quot;CAN&quot; hunt!!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

&quot;Spring Season....the Best&quot;!!!

If you are a NWTF member, put on your NWTF hat and talk to him about the birds too... Explain what the NWTF does, explain what kind of hunter you are. If anything, you can find out where the birds go, or where others are, and who in the area might be open to hunting. We started out with two farmers who gave us permission to hunt their land - we keep in touch with cards and calls, and we clean up anything we see. Once you get one farmer, you can use that name to drop on other farmers and a lot of them say, if so and so says you are okay, then it will be okay with me. Even if he says no, talk about if he enjoys seeing the birds, if he would like to see more, and explain ways he can improve his flock. If he says no this year, send him a card or a gift thanking him for the chat and try again the next year... build up a reprituar (I know I massacred that word)... Good luck.

Got to say that if you don`t ask you`ll never get permission. I take a slightly different line. I look into who owns the land and if anyone I know knows the landowner. I find that when asking a farmer for access if you let him know that you hunt on other farmers land locally it increases you odds. Never hurts when you already hunt on someones land and he`s known him for years.(the old if John lets you on, you must be alright)
