In the Jan./Feb. issue of Turkey Call on the 2nd page , there's an ad for "the Freak". Has anybody used it? Whatcha think of it? I have my local huntin' shop checking into it and some "pro" info would be great before I pull out the wallet ...again

I would think that with this being a new call for 2003 that most would not have it yet. Maybe ask Trever Aljoe if he is around your area doing banquets. Also ask him who taught him everything about turkey hunting ...BT

My loving and wonderful wife bought me one for our anniversy on the 6th. I have to say I'm very pleased with this call so far. It's made of "frictionite" just like their call "frictionite" and is very similar to the composite of the Knight & Hale Ol' Yeller call. (which I have and love, so do the longbeards) It came with a new striker called the "gravedigger" which not only sounds good on the call but about all my friction calls. It appears to be a rosewood striker with a large hollow plastic bell. The call itself has alot of volume when not "strapped on". It can also be toned down. I was worried that it would sound muffled when strapped on but it does not. Sounds very nice actually. Can't wait until the spring season to use this call. It should awesome for closing work since I prefer a friction call over the mouth calls. It should also be good for finding those old toms when not strapped on. Oh Yeah... My wife got it at wally world for $19.99

BB---The Ol' yeller and the Sla-tek are patented, so the frictionite must be substantially different or else patent rights would be infringed. The only way around that, of course, is if Primos paid Knight & Hale a commission to use and alter the patent.
I've got way too many friction calls now...I just make new strikers from different substances for new "sounds" I'm personally moving on to making my own diaphragms, whole lot cheaper than $5 a pop for something I might blow out in one Spring.

naaahhhhh,,, their supposed to call turkeys in
Don't get me wrong. I like my custom calls to be pretty. Heck after paying the price I want it to sing and look good But I figure the "freak" to be a workhorse. Just like my duty weapon, Glock 22. It won't win any beauty pagents but it will do the job.

The concept is pretty neat. It'd be nice if you were on their pro staff and got one in the mail for free. As for me, I'll maybe play with one a little at a show or something, but I wouldn't really consider them practical.
