I have taken alot of deer and carp with a bow but never a turkey. My son finally talked me into trying with my new setup. I have watched several videos to see where the best shot placement is but cant come up with any conclusions. I have seen frontal, side and rear body shots is there one prefered? I am a decent shot but I can only hit the head with a 3 1/2 #5.

The head/neck areais the only place to shoot a turkey with a shotgun. If they are strutting, I usually try to shoot them when they turned sideways so I don't tear up their fan. Otherwise, any shot angleat their head is okay as long as he has it sticking up there a little ways.

Oops, sorry about that, I didn't realize that you were talking about bow hunting until I posted my message!![&:][:-]

I'm not an expert at bowhunting shots for turkey but I'll give ya my $0.02 and maybe somebody will chime in if I'm wrong.
Best shot is at a strutting gobbler facing away from you>shoot at base of fan.
broadside> aim at base of wing, or just below it.
frontal> just above base of beard if strutting, and below if standing tall.

You shoot between the wing and the leg.

Aim a little bit high and you will hit meat every time.

Never shoot it in the butt =- while it is walking away and never try for the head.

Make sure you practice looking at real turkeys to determine where the wing butt is. I waspracticing on a 3d target and was way off when it came to real birds. The colors on the target messed me up. I missed a few before I figured it out. Good luck, the kill area on a gobbler is about the size of a softball at most.
