I would also like to state that each morning I went out I saw the same five or six birds, two were beardless jakes and two hens. Does this mean anything at all? do you think the gobblers are done doing their business for the spring or havent started? Also does anybody know about how long a Tom will stay with one hen. Im sure it can vary but just a general time span?

dont know for sure how long a gobbler will hangout with a hen, i'm sure it's until he breeds her, but after that i'm not sure, may depend on the # of hens that are in that area as well....he could stay there until he breeds them all......we have poults sprouting up everywhere, so i know it's basically done down here...i've seen 2 strutters since season ended here...i would leave the decoys at home and i would go after that gobbler.....

I agree with you as well. After a couple of gobbles before fly down, the woods seem to go quiet. Tells me one sure thing, they have hens with them, and there's no need to do anymore gobbling. (that's why a Tom gobbles in the first place, to attract hens). This past spring has been quite wet and cold, and maybe threw off the start of the mating process, so I figure it only should start to get better later in the month. Hang tuff!!

DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK THE THE PREDATOR POPULATION COULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE SHUT LIP, THE BIRD MY BROTHER KILLED WAS AT 10 AM AND I ONLY HEARD HIM TALK TWICE BEFORE HE WAS ON US AND IT TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR FOR HIM TO COME UP ONE LITTLE POINT.WE HUNT IN SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY, PIKE COUNTY.
