Default What a great start to the spring season

I went out to the farm this afternoon to pick up some old farm equipment. WhileI was out there I could hear some gobblers in the distance.Any time I go out to the farm, I pack some camo and my bow.Ihadplaned on looking for a hog.I usually do not see turkey on my land because ofall the hogs. Hogs will eat the eggs, so if you have a lot of hogs, you donthave many turkey. I domy turkey hunting closer toDallas, and have not planed todo any turkey huntingfor anotherweek or two. Needless to say, I had no calls or decoys, so I thought there would be no chance to get a gobbler in. I set up in a field and did some calling with my mouth. I had a gobbler calling back to me. So I did my best hen calls and clucks I could. I guess it was good enough for this guy. He shows up about 100 yard from me, so I pur, cluck, and puck the best I can. I get him to struting and working towards me. I keep it real simple to keep him from spooking. After about 10 min. I get him within 45 yards. I puck at him to get him to raise his head, and when he did, I let the arrow fly. The only bad thing, I took his beard off. No problem, it wasnt a very good beard to anyway, about an inch from what I could tell on the ground and what was left on him. I had to shoot him with my fixed blades, since I had planed on shooting a hog. I usually use mechanicals but you got to use what you got. This guy drops on the spot and gets my spring season started right.

Pretty awsome shot with a bow!!!!Good calling job!!! Have you ever did that before???

Never called one in with my natural voice before... I've been practicing with my natural thoe... I've been thinking that it might work in a close calling situation..

This is the first time ive ever called them with my own voice with the intent to shoot one. When my daughters and I are out walking the river in spring, I like to call to them. Some times they respond, other times they dont. Just like with calls. Ive had them look for me before. My daughters always get a kick out of it. They love to see a bird spot us from across teh river and take off.
