Looks like the Fed did the best... I would take those Fed and shoot them at 40 yards too

the flight control dont look half bad. id hang on to the hevi shot and run it througha .670-.680 choke. they seem to favor a slightly more open choke. for a 3 1/2 inch #6 load of hevi shot at 30 yds i bet youd see atleast double on the target with a diffrent choke. i wanna say i put almost 200 # 6s out of a lighter 3 inch hevi shot load on a 8x 11 paper or something i forget...id stick with the flight controls till you try another choke..they look good..exspecially 4 shot...the numbers of "kill zone hits may look better for the hevi shot...but dont let that fool you...you will not put those same pellets there every time...i go by density...the FC looks nice and dense..

Yea i was suprisingly still impressed by the Federals which have always been my choice round. I may try a 3.5" Fed #5 shot too with that choke. But yea i've heard the HeviShot likes a .675. One of my buddies who's a county-mounty and shotgun/turkey nut says the Primos Jellyhead lays a helluva pattern with the HeviShot. I also am gonna try the Winchester Extended Range before season starts. I didnt have much time after work today but I will go next time to try all of them out from 20-60 yards.

another good rather inexpensive choke is the HS strut Undertaker Hevi shot tube. i think its .675. thats what i use in my 870. patterns are excellent with hevishot...lead and copper plated as well. liked everything i shot so far. when sending heavy charges through a small constriction it can be less productive..exspecially hard shot like hevi shot and the like...

Yeah, the Fed looked good. I'm trying it this year too with the Flight control wad I've heard it doesn't like to be over choked,it interfere's with the wad leaving thew barrel and the factory full choke may wotk better. I'm gonna try it soon now that the weather is warming up!

2006highsierra, I also tried the Hevi Shot, Flight Control, and Winchester Supreme Elite Xtended Range as well. Seems like shells can pattern differently in the same gun so it's good to try a few. Out of the 3 in my gun, The Winchesters seemed to hit harder andhave a more uniform pattern. I've now got enough shells for some time to come!!

Here is the Winchester pattern at 40 yards. Not great but all it takes is one in the right place...

I like the Federals. And yes, they do not like to be over-choked, that's for sure.

You may remember that I posted some results about shooting 3.5" Hevi-Shot 13's #5 shot out of my remington 870 SPS-T Thumbhole gun with a Primos Jelly Head choke and the pattern was aweful from 40 yards away. I went out the following weekend and shot the federal flight control 3.5" #5 shot and the Winchester Supreme 3.5" #5 shot. Both patterend much, much better than the Hevi Shot and I would have to name the Federal's the winner. They seem to be a more tighter pattern than even the Winchesters Superems. I even tried them out at 50 yards and was getting five or six pellets in the brain / spinal cord area. I plan on posting the results on a new thread, just haven't gotten around to it.
