I also like the natural look and have spurs coated with clear fingernail polish that are at least 15 years old with no decay at all,in fact they still are shining puurrrttyy!!!

I have uaed both salt and borax to dry them and found both worked well for me. I have been making small dream catchers with the turkey spurs with the skin on for some of my friends who have had successful hunts, they have them hanging on their rear view mirrors in their trucks. I have sealed them with a indoor outdoor semi gloss polyurethane to preserve them and give a polished look. I used a drum sander to smoothen the ruf surface of the bone after I cut it and hollowed out the bone when it was still fresh with a soft marrow. I have a couple of photos of a couple I have done with deer leather, turquoise, turkey feathers fox fur, jake beard, turkey spur

Thanks for the compliment Maytom; I have really enjoyed doing the work for friends, it is so nice to see their faces break into a smile when they see the work I have done with their trophies. I have been doing some tail fan mounts for friends also , when i get the photos back I will share them with you all. I am looking forward to the day when I get to do some mount work with my own Bow Harvest Turkey, I still have yet to get one with my bow, but I have had some fun really close calls.
