Last season I tried calling turkeys in for a shot and got them right up to a hog wire fence. For some reason they would not cross the fence. What could I do to get them across the fence if this happens again this year? They were still a good 60 to 70 yards away, and I'm pretty sure they had now found me. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

move closer to the fence and setup. turkey's are hard to get over a fence or creek.if there is a hole in the fence they will come through it,if no hole they will ("ALMOST"
not cross it.
try to get around the fence,if it is on your property,if not you may have to just wait him out.if the fence is the property line get about 40 or 50 yards from it and set up a couple decoys,(with breeding jake) so he can see them from the fence and he (MAY) come over.a decoy that moves will add realisim to the setup.
my best advice would be move on to another bird till later in the season till the hens are setting.than he will be alone and easer to get over the fence.
Good luck, you have work on your hands.

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

Like treeclimber said if they don't have a way through they seldom fly over a fence .I have a 6 foot deer fence around my garden .If I leave the gate open and they go in and then I shut the gate they get pretty worked up running around the fence looking for a way out . To be considered so smart sometimes they act awful dumb.
