Lou Lou- The name of this topic is "Mossberg 835 Ulti-MAg" you went onto a tangent off in la la land about how a custom gun and shells could kill a turkey at 90 yards....then you went off on another tangent about killing a big gobbler...does the size of your gobbler make you a better hunter than us all??? Does a big bird on your wall make you knowledgeable?

IF YOU SHOOT AT A TURKEY AT 90 YARDS YOUR UNETHICAL, DISRESPECTFUL TO THEBIRD, AND IN MY OPINION A TOTAL IDIOT. NO MATTER IF ITS STEPEHN RAY OR ROB KECK. EVERY BLIND SQUIRREL WILL FIND A NUT EVERY NOW AND THEN STEPHEN RAY. BUT THERE IS NOT A SINGLE PERSON ON THIS BOARD THAT BELIEVES YOU ARE 3 FOR 3 ON TURKEYS AT 90 YARDS WITH A SHOTGUN. I AM DONEWITH THIS TOPIC- TOO RIDICULOUS.

Listen boys , read my threads, I never said that I shot 90, matter of fact , I said it was unethical, I just said it was possiable, Never would I shoot that, as for the blind thing, come see my walls and my photo's over the years, hell, got a grand slam on the wall, plus numerous eastern. No I'm not better than anyone else, but when you insult a man's hunting ability for turkey's what did you expect to get in return. I'm just as passionate about it as everyone else. Anyone else would have defended their ability to hunt in a similar way. Blind squirrel( sorry about spelling I'm blind you know) Now that's Funny.

I will admit when I'm wrong, I did go off on a tangent, You are going to have to expierement with shells, like other said each gun is different, I've owned 5 of them , each gun shot great with a comp-choke and 6's. I would try those federal x-tended ranges 3 1/2 , they shoot alot better than others without the kick. As for a choke .655 or .660 with 6's. Everybody has there opinion, here's mine. I may not have 30 years of expierence but I live for this stuff and cannot deal with less than perfect products that don't produce. Believe me I've spent alot of money on this.

Hey Deersmoker.... Don't your 835 ulti-mag have the ulti-mag choke in it and not a accumag? That ulti choke they come with I think is .690 and I would think you could get alot better group than 13 or 14 pellets in the head at 25yds. I've been shooting a 835 for turkey hunting for about 6 years now and they are a turkey slayer.I wouldn't settle for that load IMO. You should get alot more hits in the head and neck w/ that 835 at 25yds, even with the factory ultichoke. I spent about $30 or so for a Hastings .675 and I get awesome patterning out to 40yds. I don't like a tighter choke because I like to shoot #5's and I think the tighter you get and the larger shot size you use w/ it causes more fliers. JMO..I also have used the 3'' and 3 1/2'' Winchester supremes #5's and the 3'' actually patterned better out to 40yds. with alot less punishment.

You should get way better performance out of a comp-n-choke , they are expensive but worth the money, the ulti-full choke will do ok out to 35 yards, but then it will drop off. I've found out the hard way and bought all of the cheaper chokes and spent over 300.00 over the years. I should have bought a comp-n-choke right off the bat. There are about 60.00 for a choke tube, the good thing is that thay will let you send back the choke for a refund or another choke that will work for you after you shoot it. So you can eliminate the restriction sizes one by one with only paying for one choke, all you have to do is pay shipping. I would start with a .660 if your barrel is 24in and go higher to a .665 if your barrel is 26 or 28in long. Since the barrel is shorter you need a tighter choke to keep it together at longer ranges. A little more open for longer barrels. As for shot, go right to X-tended ranges 3 1/2 6's they will blow you existing pattern away by 50 plus pellets at 40 yards, let me know how you do.
