Default Winchester Extended range ammo

I started to use the new Winchester Extended range 3" #5 ammo this year and let me tell you it is AWESOME! I rolled one at 35 yds with no flinching or a chance of a fly off and a second one at 40 yds with just two flinches and DONE!

I'm hooked..........any others using it or comments?

See my 2 posts for this year's gobblers...I was thoroughly amazed with the first ("Off the snide!"; 43 paces) and agonizing over the second ("Second of the season..."; 35 paces).
But honestly, I couldn't be happier with the pattern from my Ithaca...at 40 paces, I'm getting almost 150 hits in a 12" circle, with ~30 hits in the head/neck of a turkey target.

Next year though, I think I'm gonna have to go to #5s

I used the 3.5" Xtended Range loads and took three birds this season. The first was with XR #5. I shot him at 47 yards. He kicked a little, but that was it. The second bird was also shot with XR #5. He was shot at 18 yards. He went down like a ton of bricks had hit him. The third was taken with 3.5" #6 Xtended Range in another gun. He is my largest bird to date. 23 lbs, 1 3/8" spurs, 10 1/2" beard. I took him at 20 yards, and there was not much left of his head and neck.

I think that Winchester has really produced a fine load with the Xtended Range shells and don't plan on changing for awhile.

Wacker I bought some last season and patterned them. they pattern awsome. I just don't like the idea of all those #7 pellets. I had a couple of them left and shot them this season through my undertaker Hevi shot choke and they shot awsome. I almost hunted with them this year

Mr. Longbeard,I have the same thoughts on the 7 shot.I think it is the price plus the cost of a new choke that has kept me from going to the nitro.I plan on trying the Winchester xtended next year.I have always gotten my best patterns with Winchester ammo.
