Shrewshooter: We Had a Great Trip!
Mike,
We had a great trip to the camp this weekend. We got a new rubber roof installed on top of the old shanty. Now it should stay dry inside. If only we can figure out how to stabilize the underpinnings to keep it from sliding off the hill!
The shanty was built about 100 years ago on a 45 degree hill! Somebody didn't know what they were doing, or they knew what they were doing and wanted to go to their graves knowing somebody was going to be miserable some day in the future dealing with the movement of the earth and, therefore, the shanty with it!
We did get to take a drive out Turkeybone Road and look at/for deer. If what we saw is any indication, this ought to be a great season. We saw a total of 33 deer in our 30 minute drive out and back. There were some very healthy animals!
We couldn't see a quarter of the fields we normally see because the foilage is still on the trees. When we come in late October to the middle of November, it is all gone! We can see everything then.

Mike,
I forgot to mention one thing. I feel like I walked about 4 or 5 miles back into Elk River, killed a gigantic buck, and dragged it out by myself. Dragging big apple tree limbs along a 45 degree slope was just as tiring!!
My right knee is swollen about 20% right now. Oh the joy of growing old! <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_sleepy.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_sleepy.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_sleepy.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Mike,
Unfortunately, when we were cutting limbs and dragging them, there was three old fellas and one youngster. It took all of us to get the job done. We were all smack worn out Friday night.
Yeah, I've heard bears react that way. I've also heard them pushing over trees, at least that is what it sounded like. I decided there wasn't enough territory for the two of us and headed elsewhere!!
Hope you get your bear. Best of luck in your pursuit.
