Default Storing my Recurve??? Help

One thing I have been frightened of before and after the purchase of my Bow is the chance it could ever warp or twist.

What can be done to avoid any such thing?

if your hunting, and not planning on unstringing your recurve for a while. always lay your bow on its side, on a flat surface. same goes if you shoot everyday, and dont unstring it. most twist happen while you are stringing or unstringing your bow. also make sure that you have a good stringer, like a selway. they are almost fool proof. but you still have to follow the instructions close. i never stand my bows up in the corner, like you see in alot of pictures. if i plan on not using the bow for a while, if its a takedown i'll break it down and store in a case. if you dont have a case, i make sure that the limbs are laying on thier side as well. heat is your bows worst enemy. never leave it in a hot place while strung up, or directly in the sun light. its all mostly common sense, most of the bows made today are very tough. but with good care they last a life time. i have some lemonwood bows that date back to the 40s, and still shootable. takecare Billy

What I have been doing is stringing the Bow. Shooting for an hour or less, and then unstringing the bow. I knotch the string back on the oposite side and then repeat process almost daily. Sometimes twice.

I should NOT do this???!?!!?

I was not aware. I was told sometime back when I was a kid and had a little recurve, " Now always but it away like you found it..." I would store it under the bed, flat and I would always unstring it.

This seems vitally important to me.

I was also told that by unstringing the bow regularly, it keeps the strength of the limbs intact.

Is this False as well????

i never had any problem with leaving a bow strung, but im not talking about a year at a time. i shoot everyday with a 70 lb recurve. its a pain stringing these things. but ive seen some really good bowmen leave their bows strung for weeks, during hunts ect. so just use your own judgement. perhaps someone else could comment on this subjuect, im sure someone will. all i can tell is that ive never seen a major defference is the poundage for leaving it strung for a while. but you can count on reasons to unstring your bow if you shoot much, such as string strecth ect. takecare billy

I appreciate all of your help and patience here Billy. Believe me.

What I am looking for is a long and enjoyable sport of Bow hunting.

All I will need is my bow coming out looking like an Aussie boomerang

I used to be compulsive about unstringing my bows after I was done shooting. Still am, to some extent. I still feel it's better for the bow to have the limbs relaxed when it's not in use. But with the glues they're using on bows now, it's not as important as it used to be. Knock on wood, but I've never twisted a recurve's limbs while stringing or unstringing one. You just can't be careless while doing it.

I am generally careful when stringing. It is usually a matter of correct tecnique to get the thing strung anyway.
I will pick up a stringer anyway. It would insure any default on my part.
They seem to be resonably priced.

I may leave it strung for the days I am shooting, but if I am not going to shoot it for 2-5 days. I think I will take the string off.

There is a test somewhere about this.
The bow was, with the string on, stacked away in a dark place for a year and it didnt loose anything of its power and for sure it didnt twist.
Therefor i stay at silvertips words about heat.....
That will couse more problems than being stringed....

Got my first wood/glass laminated recurve in the spring of 1968 when I was in high school. For the 13 years before that it was selfbows and solid glass recurves.
