I finally shot the new CheckMate yesterday evening. I learned several things real quick. The 2117's do not shoot very well. The 2013 the dealer sent me shoots good, but I still have some fletching contact with the shelf. I think I like the 3 fingers bellow with the middle finger anchored at the corner of my mouth and the bottom finger barely even touching the string. I started split finger but wanted to shoot really high most shots and felt like I was pointing at the ground to correct, so I switched to the 3 under. I didn't use the arrow for any kind of reference and the 3 under seemed more natural.
I definitely enjoy shooting the recurve and could have shot all day, but it got dark on me. I couldn't stand watching the wild flight of the 2117 arrows so I was only shooting the one 2013. My wife was laughing at me for having to walk back and forth to the target after every shot. I'll be headed to the archery shop today and that will show her.LOL
The bow shoots faster than I expected and is a lot quieter than I expected, if my release is smoothe enough. I think I will pick up on the accuracy fairly quick with practice.
I was wondering how much flethching contact some of you normally have when shooting off the shelf, if any?

Hobbes, where is your nock point set at? If I'm not mistaken 3fingers-under requires a higher nock point most times. Maybe this is part of your problem w/fletch clearance. I'd try raising it a little at a time & see if that helps. Glad your enjoying your new bow, fun isn't it?!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I shoot 2514's out of my CM TM hunter II at 31.5 inch draw approx 66# (60 at 28"
and have NO problems with flight. I know that some boyers will tell you that the bow has to be made to shoot 3 fingers under but I am unsure of what they do differently.

The bow is tillered a little differently for 3 under. I think a higher nock point is needed and you can kinda fool the bow by placing a stick on rest like a flipper rest on the riser. By no means an expert at this stuff, but that's what I've gotten from other posts about 3 under shooting.

I'm still trying the 3under method and it still feels more natural for me. It feels more like I am actually pointing at what I am looking at. I guess it is because the arrow is closer to the line of sight. I will probably try split finger some more with a higher anchor.
I moved the nock a bit on my 2117s to try and eliminate fletching contact and I think I have that solved. I also moved the nock point up to 4/8" above the shelf. The 2117s are flying a lot better. I think my biggest problem is consistently getting a smoothe release. I haven't shot fingers in a while.
The most recent Easton chart I have shows the 2117s to be one of the choices for my setup, but every traditional chart I have seen shows the 2117 to be overspined. The 2117's I am shooting are about 1.5 to 1.75" too long. I think I will try having a few of them cut down first to see if this causes them to become way over spined. I may try going with a heavier point to weaken the arrow a bit. I will probably try to get my hands on a couple more sizes to try them out.
I'm not used to the wind affecting my arrow flight much because of the smaller carbons and speed I shoot from the Hoyt. The wind really grabs these heavier slower arrows and makes it hard to tell if its my release or the wind moving the arrow. I could shoot this thing and tinker with it all day I think, wind or not.

It was explained to me that the main (pretty much only) difference in having a bow tillered for 3-under is bow noise. A bow that is tillered for split will usually be louder when shot 3-under, and vice-versa.

I am definitely over spined, but I had the 2117s readily available. I thought I would give them a try first since I had 1.5 dozen of them. I am shooting a 45@28" and I am drawing in the neighborhood of 29".
I don't know anything about the bow being tillered for 3under, but now that the fletchings are clearing the shelf I have very minimal noise. Although, I have started close enough to the target that it is sometimes hard to distinguish the sound of the bow from the sound of the arrow hitting the target. I have backed out to 20yds. a couple times and shoot suprisingly well considering my limited experience with instinctive shooting, I wouldn't say I'm out to break any records though.

Hobbes-I too shoot a check-mate a Hunter II 52#@28" and I draw 29"-I also shoot with 3 under.First you are WAY over spined with the 2117's I can't get them to fly out of my 57# bow.You should have good luck with 2016's start with a longer arrow and cut down or try using field tips of different weights till you get them to fly the way you want.My bows aren't tillered for 3 under my personal opinion is that it don't make much difference,if it worries you ya can always put an arrow rest on and that will move your fingers up on the string to where a split finger shooter shooting off the shelf would be.(ever wonder what happens when a split finger shooter puts a rest on --now his fingers are ABOVE the center of the bow as much as a 3 fingers under shooters fingers are below--I think thats why JRW had to sell his Black Window!)
