Default Compound attachment

You know, I have kept a compound. I don't know why. Just can't let that attachment go. I hunted all day yesterday with my black widow. Seen a bunch of doe and spikes. All day, looking around, I kept telling myself, thats an easy compound shot, or if I had my compound, that would be a give me. I need to break away from comparing the two bows.

A spike got 24 yards or so from me, and half drew back, and then let down. I asked myself, one do you want to butcher a deer tonight and two, why shoot a spike so early in the season. But a 24 yards trad shot is not a give me.

I don't know how to break my attachment from the compound

Mate.

Hit it a couple of times with a 10lb sledge I am sure that will break something

Why try to break it? Time and a place for both if you so choose. Ain’t no shame in that.

In the 80's, I'd go to a tournament with two compounds set up for different classes, a recurve and a longbow. Then when I found out where the best competition was, I'd sign up for that class. The compounds very rarely went hunting with me though. There's a place for a compound, if you like to run that way from time to time.

I'm in the same boat. I about sold mine a couple times, making a real good deal to guys wanting to get started, but both times they decided against it.

Fine with me. It's ok sitting in the case where I can look at it from time to time, but I haven't shot it in over 2 years.

Not for me! I'm 100% traditional, I'm not one bit into compounds. In saying that though If I can't pull my recurve back due to getting old a compound will be my next choice and then the ML will be the next choice. If I was still shooting my compound chances are I would have one hell of a taxidermy bill the last 10 years. That's hunting though, all part of using a traditional bow.

I still have and shoot a compound. I have gradually sold off all my compounds, but just cant let go of my favorite. I like to get out and shoot it. I even took my first deer last year with it. Last year I did not get a chance to practice, and was recovering from a hand injury on my draw hand, so I took my compound on a, spur of the moment, hunt. Glad i did. I ended up tagging a huge doe. The rest of my deer were shot with longbows and recurves. I guess Its like haveing a sports car. They are fun to drive, but not much fun to take on trips. I like to sport my compound around the back yard every now and then, but love to take long trips (hunt) with my trad bows. It is also nice to have a bow that I can pick up and be dead on in times of injury. Im kind of accident prone. I have not pulled out a compound since that deer hunt last year. Ill be out with an osage bamboo long bow on opening day this year. Which fall in less than two weeks.

I can't shoot a compound. I get a real ugly look on my face when I pick one up.

Ya see, now I'm in a different boat. I've shot recurves all my life and sorta had disdain for compounds. Now, there's a organization in northern VA called Suburban Whitetail Management of Northern Virginia. They hunt urban deer almost year round on damage stamps. The thing is they will only let compounds or crossbows hunt no trad bows. (I don't know why, yet) So my wife bought me a Bear compound to use. It's taken me a full year to get used to the darn thing to be able to qualify for the group. Qualification is 2 out of 3 of the broadheads you are going to use in a 6" circle at 20 and 30 yards. I go tomorrow to qualify and yes I am bringing one of my recurves. I think I'll take the Bear Custom TD.

If ever I can convince them that their prejudice is unfounded I'll sell that compound to the first one that wants it. There is no attachment to it.
