why are you in the woods Double Creek ? why are you hunting ?

if its to kill big bucks every year - use a rifle and high tech compounds - those will give you the best chances to bring home the horn porn

if you're hunting for more than killing big antlers though ..... then no, traditional hunting IS bowhunting, compounds and crossbows and the like isn't real bowhunting.

and I don't mind being a snobbish elitist in saying it

I see the original post was from March last year.

DC has your shoulder improved any???????

I herniated 2 disks in my neck about the then and have not been able to shoot a compound without pain since.

But I can shoot trad gear all day without pain.

Do what you have to do to keep the joy of hunting.

ORIGINAL: Double Creek

So...... After all that belly aching For you guys that have 100% dedicated yourself to traditional archery.. Is there any going back to compounds other than medical reasons?

I see NO reason for me to take my Compound back into the woods, I enjoy shooting my Longbow that much!!! The first few hunts when I had my longbow in hand and had deer "just" out of range, I thought, damn, I could of killed that with the compound. Now with 1 full season under my belt hunting with a Longbow only, I made my adjustments and my compound never enters my mind! I shoot my bow everyday because I want to, that never happened when I was shooting a compound, I had to force myself to shoot, got boring quickly! I just found out that this "traditional" way of life is for me! To each his own, hunt with what ever weapon ya want to that makes YOU happy, I do!

Like BC, im a tweener, and see no problem with that at all. Comments that are made such as stealthycatII has said are just rediculous. Nothing personal, I just do not agree with your point of view. Sure it may not be as difficult to shoot an accurate group with the wheels, but it sure is just as fun (to me anyways). Maybe one dayI will get bored with it, but I doubt it. I dont this of it as a baseball vs softball point of view, more like baseball vs basketball. Two totally different animals. Which ever I decide to do depends only on the mood that I am in that particular day!

I think I posted this before in a different thread.

I never had a compound until last year. I joined aorganization that culls overpopulated deer from suburban subdivisions, year round. Their requirement is compound or crossbow ONLY! I shot my first 2 deer this year with it. I felt like I was cheating. I wish I could use my trad bows, if I could I'd not ever have a compound.
I wouldn't go back if I had a choice but I'm not giving up year round hunting on account of it.
