you can say what you all want but it dosnt change the fact that they are all bows.
Long(bow).
Recurve(bow)
Compound(bow).
Cross(bow)....recurve or compound...

Now 3 of these fit the Bow as in bent stick with a string attached to both ends..
Then there are 2 that are the big ?.that being compound and crossbow compound witch use 2 limbs and more then 1 string/cable and have 1 or more pullies....But no matter how you look at it they all have limbs and propel a arrow......
Now if they would of called 2 of these guns as in CROSSGUN then we would have a reason to argue about it,but they are not....
I wounder if Fisherman call fishing with a Depth Finder really fishing or do they want a differant season for people that use depth finders....I dont think so....

You can arrgue/bicker all you want but as long as they are referd to as bows thats what they are Bows...
If you cant precive that these are all bows then you(as everyone)need to buy your own Privet land and hunt it with your type of bow and live in your own little world and leave the rest alone.

Question..
I have hunted for 24 yrs with bow only this will be my 25th year, now being how Ive used the bow only for this long and own all 5 types, recurve, longbow, compound, crossbow compound and recurve are anyof you going to tell me Iam not a true bow hunter...or that Iam lazzy because I have chosen to own a compound and crossbow....I hope Not. I put just as much time inthru the year with all my bows to be the best I can be and getting to understand the bow its self.....

I am what I am...A Bowman 1st and a Hunter 2nd......

Come on Ranger, stop making sense. It is more fun when i've got the bow hunting world's version of the Jehovah Witnesses telling me that there is only one true path to hunting Nirvana.

I'm still racking my brain to see if i can even remember seeing someone in my part of the country hunting with a primitive bow.
But I guess that folks there should be obligated to keep the woods wide open for extended periods in the event that one of these people seeking a higher spiritual plane decides to go hunting.[8D]

One quick question for you Ranger. Do you understand why some people like myself have a problem with these xbows being locked and ready to be shot unlike my recurve? This is my only problem with them. Do you understand why it might bug me some? For crying out loud you put the scope on the animal and pull a trigger!! Is that bow hunting? I thought we were suppose to draw our bows back, not have them locked and loaded like a gun. I guess I don't understand this and to me its the farthest thing from bow hunting being it has limbs and a string. That picture that wyvern put up with the compound and the prod, thats not bow hunting to me either! Is that picture bow hunting to you?

I don't claim to be any kind of crossbow expert, but I have shot them, and I do know a bit about bows in general. I haven't made any arguments against using them for hunting.

On the other hand, you admit you haven't bowhunted and have no interest in bowhunting, yet you feel amused over my opinion? Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are..........

"Heck no, not even close if you ask me!!"

Sorry...but by every definition of what a "bow is" that is a bow and that is archery. At this point the ONLY diferance between this "archer" and one holding a crossbow is that the crossbow is holding 8 lbs of string tension less that this guy is. Now, when the arrow releases, the compound BOW shooter in that photo is going to be more accurate than the crossbow and be able to take animals at longer distance than ANY crossbow on the market. AND he is LEGALY BOWHUNTING!! Sooo...that IS archery, it is not what alot of us would use, or even feel is fair, but it IS archery. Face it...if compounds are considered archery, then crossbows should be considered archery. THAT is the main issue here...if you allow compounds with all that crap attached to it then you have no real reason to block crossbows. If there was a primitive only season where I could go out with my longbow (or my "primitive crossbow" ) and hunt without seeing a compound then fine, but when I see training wheels on 99% of the "bows" I see in the woods on opening day of "bow season" thenI want the ability to take a modern crossbow and go into the woods as well since there is not enough actual diferance to justify them being segregated from the rest of archery....

Well, I have shot crossbows, recurve bows, and compound bows. I just dont want to use them to hunt. When i first came on here, i was willing to admit that i don't know that much about bows. But, after talking to you I realize i know a bit more than i thought. But to get back to my original point, have you actually went out in the woods hunting with a crossbow, or is your perspective based on shooting one at a bale of hay a couple times?

I will let Ranger answer himself, but I had tosay something...NO...I DONT understand what your problem is... Keep in mind here that I generaly shoot a long bow..

Some "archer" with a compound puts hisdrawn bow on his knee and puts his "scope"(yes, they have magnified scopes for compounds...and red dots, and lasers) and "pulls his trigger". Big hairy wow....whatdid that archer( or the guy with a crossbow)doto you to prevent you from using your recurve??? So it does not fit your style of hunting and your choice of equipment....Till I see a "No Recurve or Long Bow" sign somewhere this in no way effects your ability to hunt as you want. All you are doing is stamping your feet and demanding that you have the woods to yourself and the deer to yourself and that there should be some law to prevent modern archery equipment from being in the woods while you are there. Well...The time for that was back when compounds first came out and WAY too many traditional hunters embraced them and you all lost your chance.

So, instead of whining about what archery is and is not to "you" you have a few choices: Buy your own land...lease a private hunting range...walk a bit farther into the woods than the next guy...OR...get out your trusty pen and paper and petition for a "primitive season" in your state and get the laws changed to what suits you. If that cant happen go back to my other suggestions and stop crying...its archery...deal with it. It is not your choice of equipment, and it is not how it used to be done, but ultimatly no one wiht a compound or crossbow is forcing you to put down your recurve...just like no one is stopping me from going out with my long bow next September.
