Default String Options

Just one more question and I will leave you alone.

I was flipping through a catalog and noticed that a lot of bows are being made with reiforced limb tips to allow use of a Fast Flight string. Doesn't this kinda defeat the purpose of getting into traditional?

Correct me if I am wrong but a Dacron is quieter, and a little more forgiving....because it is slower. A recurve or longbow is by no means a speed demon so why try and turn a Ford Model T into a Drag racer?

Pyral : The new string material BCY 450 and dynaflite 97 is stronger and has less strech then dacron and fastflight, once they settle in they don't strech anymore, they are just as quite as dacron , you might have to work on the bow a little more to get it quiet. I think a lot depends on the bow design . The added benefit is you gain a little speed. Not traditional ? you are buying a bow that is built with modern material , fiberglass and guled together with epoxy . Traditional is an attude, not if you shoot a selfbow , recurve , longbow , wood, alum. or carbon arrows,Shoot what you want on enjoy your new found direction.

Your enlightenment is greatly appreciated. I have never looked at it like that. Thanks for the time.

Pyral, you have a valid point with your first post, and Billstick addressed it as well or better than I could have. We want to keep it simple, but the modern materials make it more reliable. The same goes for strings--along with a modest increase in speed, the modern materials or more reliable, longer-lasting, and tougher. They don't require as much attention because they don't have nearly the stretch and creep as Dacron--so you don't have to worry so much about your brace height constantly changing on you.

The main thing is to have fun. Use what works best for you, and don't worry about what others might try to label you as. No matter if it's a decked out FITA bow with carbons or a selfbow with cane arrows and knapped heads--if it suits you, got for it and have a blast.
