Pyral, you have a valid point with your first post, and Billstick addressed it as well or better than I could have. We want to keep it simple, but the modern materials make it more reliable. The same goes for strings--along with a modest increase in speed, the modern materials or more reliable, longer-lasting, and tougher. They don't require as much attention because they don't have nearly the stretch and creep as Dacron--so you don't have to worry so much about your brace height constantly changing on you.
The main thing is to have fun. Use what works best for you, and don't worry about what others might try to label you as. No matter if it's a decked out FITA bow with carbons or a selfbow with cane arrows and knapped heads--if it suits you, got for it and have a blast.
