need help (PSE coyote set-up)
#1
I just bought a new PSE Coyote for 199.99 and have a question. My Mach 12 shoots Axis ST 400s and I just bout a dozen of them last week. My Q is can I shoot the 400s with the recurve or do I need something heavier or lighter? I can usually answer my archery Qs on my own but I really have no idea if I need to purchase different arrows. Any input greatly appreciated! Oh yeah, I had it set @ 50 pounds. My Mach 12 is just right at 60. Will I have trouble getting the recurve back or will it feel the same as a compound bow at 50 pounds?
Thanks,
Jake

Try shooting your ST 400's. You won't wreck them or the bow doing it. Chances are, they'll shoot ok from your recurve. If they don't shoot straight, then think about getting different arrows. The only problem might be if they are fletched plastic rather than feathers, and you shoot off the shelf. They may kick around a little. You won't have a problem pulling your recurve. The poundage builds steadily as the string comes back. The problem will be holding it back when you get there. You use different muscles than pulling a compound.

Along with spine, you need to consider the arrow weight with a recurve. I like to stay around 8-10 grains per lb--the bow will be quieter, have less vibration, and last longer. Going too light will be similar to a dry-fire, and your bow won't last.
Pulling a trad bow is a lot different than pulling a compound--no let-off, no stopping point. You will have to establish an anchor point to be able to shoot consistently. A clicker might help you with a consistent draw length.
The arrows you have will probably be too stiff. If they are borderline, you can buy heavier points, but you may have to get different arrows. Definately go with feathers over vanes.
