7/8" is a great starting point for the 2004 bows. I start there and mess wih various arrow spines 'til I find what groups tightest.

If your MM is an 03, or earlier, start around 3/4".

I have not bought a bow in 10 years. The Patriot or Mighty Mite look good. How is one to decide between them; lingth, brace, or what? It appears the Patriot outsells the MM by a large gap, with game takedowns by even larger. Any suggestions?

The Patriot is more of a "Jack-of-All-Traits" with a nice round of dimensions and features. It's not the fastest, most forgiving, most compact, nicest drawing, or the "most" at anything. It's strength is that it can be used to fling an arrow reasonably fast, with reasonable forgiveness, comfortably, and is short enough to be used in a tree stand hunting situation.

The Mighty Mite is more of a specialized hunting bow that offers good speed for its size and enough compactness to be very maneuverable in the woods.

I was in the same situation as you a few months ago before I chose the Pat. I wanted to shoot 3-D and hunt, and the Patriot fulfills both of these roles nicely. It really depends what you plan to do with the bow before a clear recommendation can be made.

BTW......welcome to the boards!

Thanks Rack Buck; I wish to do both types of shooting also & at least the Pat is in stock at the shop which is 150 miles, to far for many trips.

dwaasp----welcome to the forums

I chose the patriot sc as it felt best in my hands. The 7 inch brace and 33 inch A to A felt great with the long riser. It feels very well balanced, and draws very smooth for me at 71 lbs.My draw length is 28 inches so the added speed was a good thing with my draw length.
The MM vft is an awesom bow as well but i wanted something with a little more A to A. Whichever bow you choose is a good one,you wont be dissapointed
