PENDULUM SIGHT
I was given a Savage pendulum sight. I understand you sight it in at 20 yds. on the ground. I was wondering if anyone has used a pendulum sight and what your thoughts are on how good they are. Also, when sighting in on the ground should the target be on the same plane as the arrow so I am sighting in on a level plane. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

RE: PENDULUM SIGHT
Man, it has been lots of years but I have set up a few of them at my shop. Yes,sight it in at 20yds on as close a plane as you can get. However, I was thinking you locked it down for this, then let it swing for the compensation operation. Pretty sure that is how we did it.
Once sighted in, try it from a stand. Different stand heights effect the point of impact.
They do work IF you use the same stand (height) all the time and you practice and know the point of impact at different ranges.....JUST LIKE A NORMAL SIGHT. The thing I recall good about them is that they would get you in a deers vitals at ranges up to like 27yds, but so won't most single pins these days.
If it sounds like I am not impressed, well....I guess I wasn't because anyone that put in some practice with thier setup could do just as well. It is a bit of time saver I guess. But then again, we all need more excuses to shoot, not reasons to get away from it!
