Mathews Drenalin speed
#1
I have been working on this Drenalin for a buddy and it was way out of whack. At first it was pulling in the upper 70# range and it is a 70# bow.It was pulling about 3/8 to 1/2" long on draw as well.
I first thought the string was too long,it was new but thought it might have been made the wrong length so I checked it and it was dead on.
I noticed the cables had been twisted alot so I proceeded to get some twist out of them and that brought all the specs in.The bow tops out about 70 1/2#'s now,a-a is dead on 33" and the brace is about an 1/8" short which makes sense because the draw is about an 1/8" short which is a good thing for this guy,the bow was a little long to begin with for him.
The problem is the bow only shoots about 250 fps at 65#@ 28 3/8" draw with a 406 grain arrow.I realize I could put a couple twist back in the cable and bump the draw length and tweak the cam a little and get a couple more fps but I am thinking this bow should be pushing 280 at those specs and a couple twist isn't going to do that.
Knowing Mathews past, they tend to exagerate their speed numbers and was wondering if this is one of those bows that doesn't reach the speeds as advertised.I know the bow does not feel like a bow that is capable of doing an ibo of 320.
If this is normal speed,I will stop but if people are getting the advertised speed,I will try and put a few twist in the string and then twist the cable to tweak some more. This should keep me in spec and add some speed.

I haven't seen a Mathews yet that will get advertised speeds but 250is very low. I figure he should beright around 275 fps depending on what is on the string.
I won't have the time to get the DL measured down to the 1/8" but I can shoot a 28" draw (factory) through the chrono tomorow and post what the numbers are.

TFOX,
Something doesn't sound right. My Drenalin is 70# @ 29 1/2". With 400 grain arrows, I was hitting 300 fps. With my current arrow setup (500 grains) I'm pushing right at 268-269 fps.

Most of the Mathews I have worked on have been shot by fairly short draw archers. Usually in the 27" range. Two switchback XTs in particular. Both of those guys are maxed out at 70#s and shooting arrows about 5-6 gr over IBO. Speeds with peeps and loops are right around low to mid 270s.
Mathews bows just aren't designed to be overwhelmingly fast. I think they are extremely smooth and quiet, which is awesome.... but speed has to come from somewhere.

I've worked on Dren's extensively and hunted with one last year as well. The Dren's came from the factory at about 73-74lb max on a 70lb set of limbs on average. They also drew about 1/2" long on the cam as well. With that said, the speeds of the Dren were right on target with listed IBO specs assuming you used thecam marked as 30"(not the cam that actually measured 30"). I can't find the post I did last year, but at something like 69lbs, 29.5" cam, and a 437 grain arrow I was getting 285 last year.

Looks like I will have to twist the cable up a little,I will just have to check and see how much I can get by with. The bow needs to fit before we worry about speed.
