ITH,
I shoot an SQ2 at 60# 29" with a 28" GT55/75 with 100gr Rocket Sidewinders at 250-255 thru the chrony, total arrow weight of 360gr. I had a pass thru on the Buck that I shot this year, and the sidewinders open to 1.5" I would think you should be okay with the steelhead at 1.125" and another 10#s of draw weight. I paper tuned to bullet holes before the start of the season though. How's yours shooting thru paper?

ILL TURKEY HUNTER 1,
How is your shot placement? Shoulder shots will drain a lot from an arrow, and hit the shoulder on the boney ridge, and it'll downright stop. How many deer have you shot, that you've gotten poor penetration on? You can't judge by just one. Also, how far away are you shooting the deer? Give us some more info, and maybe we can all put our heads together, and figure this out for you.

How far are u shooting is the main thing. That light of an arrow may have more speed up close, but once it gets out there a ways, it looses its umphh so to speak. I had a buddy who razzed on me for shooting a heavy arrow(420 grains) He was shooting a legacy with Gold tip 5575 arrows that all together weighed about 380 grains. That guy had 296 FPS with his bow. But, he lost A LOT of energy down range. 20 yards or less and your fine, but after that, your pushin it. Give us a little more info and we may be able to solve this whole thing, but to me it sounds like the range is a factor.

thanks for responding! i killed 2 bucks this year,a 8point and a 9 point. i did not pass thru the deer.both shots were double lung.18yards shot on the first deer and 23 yards on the second.i waited until they were broadside, before i took the shoot.this is the first season that i have had this bow, last year i used my pse baby g,and i blew threw 4 deer last year, i'am shooting awesome groups at 20yards with my sq2, i only shoot 2 arrows or i will damage the arrows that are in the target!! and yes this bow is paper tuned.these are the only 2 deer that i have shot with this set up. thanks so much for responding, hopefully we can figure something out!!!!

Hey ILL Turkey Hunter,
did you notice your KE is only around 49.67.Not very high, especially for a Mechanical head.I would think it would be better to have around 50 foot pounds of KE on IMPACT.
I hunt with an SQ2 right now.My set up consists of Super Slam Selects,2315's 27" long.My bow maxes out at 72, and my draw is only 27", so it's no KE MONSTER, by any means.I know it's getting about 55 to 56 foot pounds of KE, enough for a small mech.head, say 3 blade, 1 1/4" cut.

If you hunt out of a tree stand most of the time, like me, then I think you would want to get as much KE into your arrow as you can.You have to keep the bow comfortable for you to shoot, otherwise your accuracy will suffer. If your current set up is about at your limit for "shoot ability" ,then you might want to get a small fixed blade head to shoot well for you. This should get you a pass through,as long as no large bones are hit.
I know that the Rocket Steelheads are some of the better penetrating mechanicals on the market right now,but your KE is still a bit low.Shooting from the ground, hitting nothing but rib cage, you would probably shoot through the deer. Now, put your self 20+ feet over head, and I think your better off with a little extra punch, especially with mech.heads.Remember, your goal for selecting a broadhead is finding the one that will leave the most blood on the ground,AND hit where your aiming.

241 seems slow for your set up espscialy if you are shooting 70 lbs . Do you have a peep with a rubber tube on it ? if so you might lose that and put a 3/16 true peep on and gain some speed and energy .is you cam peoperly indexed ? anything else on the string you might get rid of or use lighter silencers say leaches instead of cat wiskers .
