My bro-in-law has been after me to go bow hunting with him for a few years so I decided to give it a try next season. Now I've done some research, but I really know nothing about bows. I'm trying to find as much bow for as little money as possible, just on the off chance that I don't get into it. I'm looking at the Browing ambush package at huntersfriend.com, package #3 at $379. Anyone have experience with this bow, or opinions on what kind of deal this is? I'm a little leary about buying something online when I really don't know a lot about it, but after talking to the local archery store, where the salesman wasn't extremely helpful, $379 seems like a good deal. I've asked my bro-in-law, but his info has to be taken with a grain of salt since he is one of those guys who only buys what he thinks is the absolute best regardless of cost. Here's the link, thanks for opinions. http://www.huntersfriend.com/ambushpkg.htm

If the choice was mine, I'd go with the Champion Buck Saber Pkg Myself. Browning has engineers run the specs but PSE manufactures the bows. The Champion is quicker, lighter and I believe a higher quality bow. That on top of the fact that the Ambush is being discontinued... Good luck!

Hrm..I'll have to do some more research on Champion bows, my brother in law didn't know anything about them. My other option is to get a PSE Nova here locally, but the cost for the same package would be about $450, so quite a bit higher, but sold locally in case I had any trouble. Anyone have good experience with Champion, or bad? One other question, how is the fact that the Browning is being discontinued important? Thanks for the info guys.

Champion is a good company. They make solid, well crafted bows at a reasonable price. As far as that goes the Champion is just the best one (IMHO) in the mix on that site. PSE makes great bows, and you may do well to spend the extra $$. If your looking for that price range, i'd look at a few other sites

I think Alpine makes a great Bow for the price, Reflex bows are an offshoot of Hoyt and are a great beginner bow as well. Darton, Martin and High country have bows that may be in your range as well...all good.
While you may spend a little more at the pro shop, it may be worth it to have someone with a clue help you set it up. Ifyou catch the "Bug" as many of us do, the pro shop can keep you in the loop and shooting at your best.
