I painted 2 shafts today. I cleaned and sanded the shafts this time. Painted one with white enamel, and the other with the white laquer.I will let them cure for at least18 hours or so then fletch them both.

The last arrowI did with primer and laquer is actually sticking real well. the main difference is the time I let it dry. I am starting to think that is the key with the laquer, let it cure for a while not just overnight.

I noticed the laquer goes on much thinner then the enamel. One coat of enamel is as thick as two coats of laquer.

here are 2 I did one has a 7" crest the other an 8" I am going to try a fade effect on it.

Those look sharp! The fade is the trickiest part of the whole process. Suggestion: Get some dowel rods and practice a few on those. I have painted literally dozens of arrows, and just now really getting the fade to look like I want it to.

i decided to do this yesterday. i stripped a couple arrows and gave them a wipe down with some acetone. used white lacquer as a base coat and got some flo orange and flo yellow. i liked it so much i stripped all my arrows. did a few white to flo yellow, white to flo orange, yellow to orange, white to yellow to orange. man it looks nice. got the hang of it after about 3 arrows, but i'm sure i could improve my fade. that dowel idea is great. seems like there are probably a couple hundred arrows you could do with just a few cans of $3 spray paint. i'm using fast set glue and have had no trouble at all with the glue melting the paint. i also didn't have to wait very long for things to dry. the flo paint dries in 12 minutes. i gave the lacquer a couple hours. vanes are holding no problem.

1 thing i always do, which helps my blazers or feathers or anything stick, is when i set my vane on the arrow, i slide the clamp back and forth (forwards and back). it'll only move about 1/16", but this spreads the glue and after about 3 times back and forth i leave it back. for some reason this just makes them stick almost immediately. i picked the 'nique' (short for technique, i've got lots of niques) up at a proshop and it really works.

I have refletched all my arrows except for 4 in my quiver, since I still have some days left to hunt I wont touch those, yet.

I wrapped 2 arrows,laquered 2 arrows & enameled2 arrows then fletched then all with 4" duravanes with a right helical twist on my Bitz.

Now I need the time to go out and try them. Hopefully the painted ones will allgroup the same even with different paint. The weight is within about 2 grains on all of them. I am expecting the wrapped arrows to group separate due to the weight difference,and some say it changes the spine when you wrap them.

Wait until you build a cresting machine and start in with that... Talk about addicting!
