I am currently shooting XX75 2315 aluminum arrows. I have decent groups out to 25 yards, at 30 and beyond I suffer a little bit more I know I am shooting a heavy arrow buy todays standards. Even after I purchased a good speed bow I never made the switch to carbons but I am ready to do it now. I guess my question is can I expect to get tighter groups with carbons or just the opposite because of the lighter arrow? Also what would be a good size and brand?
My current set up
Matthews MQ-32 68# 29" draw
Boododle Bullet rest
Archers Choice 3 pin sight
100gr muzzy's and field tips
Tru Ball Tornado release
"A archer sees how far away he can get and still hit the target while a hunter sees how close he can get before he shoots"

mossymike, I have been trying to make a total switch to carbons for many years but alas, I always come back to my trusty alums. My latest try is with Easton epics. They are supposed to be .005 run out but with my straightener, I found not one more than .002 run out. I was getting good speed but my groups were eratic. When I do EVERYTHING right, they shoot great but when I wander so do my groups. The other day was a really BAD day so I took some old 2117 and tuned them to a bullet hole like my carbons and bingo. They were grouping better than they should have due to my punch, pull, pluck. I just can't get a carbon to be as forgiving as a little heavier alum. This is just me as others can shoot the lights out with them.

Take a look at Gold Tip XT's(55/75) and Easton ACC's(3-60). I get
great arrow flight and groups from both. My Q2 is set at 65 lbs. w/
a 27" draw and a Trophy Taker rest. My GT's are dipped, so both
arrows weigh just under 400 grains with a 100 gr. tip/broadhead...
both are in the 250's fps...for broadheads I use either 100 gr. Wasp's
or Muzzy's.
Good Luck

I've been shooting the Cabela's camo carbons(made by black hawk)The specs. say +or- .003 straightness and +or- 3grs. weight variation per doz. To get those same specs. in other brands you'll pay more than the $69.00 per doz. that Cabela's charges.I've been very pleased with them, and don't hesitate to suggest them to anyone looking to try carbons.

I dare say the problem is form not arrows.
What usually happens the faster the arrow is going minor form flaws become more evident.
I would stick with the heavier arrows and work on my form then when you are grouping well try the carbons.
I think that if you switched to carbons now you would more than likely be worse off.
I cant believe I just said to stick with the heavy arrows<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>
Arthur would be proud of me<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I've found that the BLACKHAWK brand of carbons to be absolutely the truest most consistant carbon out there. Remember, carbons like a heavier FOC! They perform better with a heavier point(broadhead) than their aluminum counterparts!
