If you wanted it to be mounted a taxidermist could easily do that for you. You would have to buy a cape from them or someone though. But they can definitely mount it.

Thanks for the reply,
I think a shoulder mount around here goes for $350. Does anyone know what a cape usually runs. Do they usually try to find a cape to match the photo and body size. or just any cape?

Thanks again!

Crutch,
I had a nice 9pt mounted with a different cape. It took 3 days to find the buck, by the time we found it the deer was a complete loss except for the horns. I purchased a new cape off of E-bay. I believe it was about $80.00. I would try and find a cape that is representative of the original size deer that you shot. If not, the rack can look way to small for the mount. The bigger hides bring in a higher price. Also the time of year that the deer was shot can affect the price. Good Luck

If i were you i would just take it to the taxidermist and get it worked on..... you can have a cape ordered anywhere between $25-$100 pending on the size. you would feel a whole lot better with it on the wall then on a plack....You also should skin the antlers before anything gets on it and you throw then away because the smell if definetly not pleasent

Being from Illinois I would bet that the deer is only 1 1/2 years old. I have a set of sheds I found a few years back and I had them done in a shoulder mount and you can't even tell. What I did is the following year I killed a 10pt and used the cape off of that for the set of big sheds I found. Or you can easily buy a capeoff of ebay, localmeat lockers, and probably your taxidermist.
