I am fairly new at any kind of taxidermy work. I was wondering if anyone knows how to mount Grouse tail feathers. I broke the feathers off at the base of the bird so there is that piece of meat that keeps them all together. What kind of wood and what shape would be the best? How do I attach it to the wood?Still have some of the small feathers on it too. Any help would be much appreciated.

If you leave it like that the bugs will eat it. You have to remove the meat and fat. The use Borax, laundry detergent as a preservative. Then spread it out and bondo. I tell you what, I'll do it for you if you send me a grouse, I'll even put it on a plaque. I used to live in MI and shot a few grouse, being young I never had any mounted. Now I'd liek to get one and mount it for old times sake. Let me know

I'd have to get one first. I have a couple in my yard but they look more gray so I think they are Spruce grouse, but I can see if I can get one. Also I would have to see how much it would cost to ship. Where abouts do you live? Did you want the whole bird?

I'll pay for shipping. I'm not in any hurry but if you get another ruffed, let me know. I'd prefer the whole bird so I can get measurements and tracings. I live in North Carolina. If you get one, slide it head first into a pair of panty hose or a newspaper plastic bag and freeze it. PM me and I'll tell you how to package it for shipping. Thanks
