This is my pup Barney and he is light but I have no problem with keeping him clean or smelling good. If the pup is being fed well the coat will have slight oil to it, which helps to keep dirt form sticking. I do lots of water work and brush him regularly. Usually a quick squirt with the hose is all he needs. He has been bathed maybe two or three times since I have had him, after rolling in something wicked.[:'(]

White Labs are actually called Yellow and they shed like crazy. We have two labs and an english setter and my wife spends half her time vacuuming. (won't let me do it because I don't do it right.) If you have any dog indoors you're going to have lots of hair, especially from the labs who shed a lot. I don't know about Goldies because I haven't own one but I love my labs shedding or not. I have the impression that Goldies are more laid back, especially than field trial labs like mine. If you want a mellow dog, get a mellow puppy. My lab is 9 and she's just beginning to calm down. I don't think the other two ever will.

Yes thanks for the advise. I know that there are only three colors of labs. But I prefer the yellow lab towards the white shade. It appears that Koda the pup will have sandy colored ears and along his back, but he's a cool pup so I couldn't pass him up.
He was born 12/30 and I got him at 6 weeks, that's a bit young I thought (8weeks). He's pretty laid back but loves to chew. I'm trying to keep him from chewing everything outside that he shouldn't be. IE.. grass, sticks, leaves. Is it ok for him to mouth this stuff. He looks like he's eating it more than mouthing it like he's hungry? I have started giving him more food, two handfuls once in the morning and at 5:30pm and one handful at around 9-10pm.
I guess two hanfuls is about 1cup and a half.

Glad to hear about your new friend. Get your self a copy of Smartworks at Rush Creek Press it is the single best expenditure I have made for myself and my pup.
Good luck with Koda.
