Iranandback03,
Thanks for posting this article. There are many folks out there who, like many of my hunting acquaintances, are adamant that the reason certain states do not allow hunting is due to the far left liberals. The liberals may be responsible for many anti-hunting and anti-gun issues, however, they are not responsible for these blue laws. I have one friend who just can not bring himself to believe that it is the church-folks that instituted these laws. Anyway, thanks for your opinion and for your service!

DROX,
You are correct. As I've gotten more involved in this over the past few years I was dumbfounded to find that it is the Republicans that are the main obstacle to gaining freedom to choose what I do with my family on Sunday.
I am a conservative and a life long Republican voter and find it kind of awkward to now be promoting and siding with Democrats. Actually I would say it is my primary issue on deciding how I vote on local politics and I'm no longer looking at what party they are.
The Sunday hunting bills that died in the House and Senate AG Committee were both patroned and submitted by Democrats in January of 2011. Thank you Senator Petersen and Delegate Keam from Northern Virginia.
The tide has started turning and many of the Republicans are starting to realize that the Government has no business telling it's citizens that they should be resting because it is the Lord's day and the bible says they should.
You are correct though, much to my sadness, that the main stumbling block falls squarely on the Republican's shoulders.

well this should be a great first post for me, and probably get a few people mad at me sadly. While I love to hunt I am mixed on this issue. I understand the thought of and the want to have Sunday Hunting, yet I also believe that those people whom don't hunt may use that sunday to go walking in the woods. I developed this idea after a friend of mine was shot at on a saturday walking in the woods actually surveying property. The local hunt club was running dogs and a deer ran into a legal field for them to be shooting in and he was in the woods on the back side of it. He ended up being hit in the abdomen by one pellet. Also my mother in-law loves to bird watch and she goes on Sundays to aviod hunting. I think that is fair to her have one day. So while there are many arguements for what we feel our right may be, I feel that we also need to respect those that don't hunt as well. We do get 6 days of a week, and half of the weekend to hunt.

There are 35 state parks in VA where a non hunter can go to enjoy the outdoors. The state likes to advertise that no one in the state is more than 1 hour from a state park. There is some hunting allowed on these parks but they are either special lottery hunts or certain designated areas. There are numerous city/town parks that are also available.
Let me ask you this question. How have the other 43 states in the country that allow hunting on Sunday dealt with these issues?

As i stated I am on the fence, i see both sides of the issue which I think is the smart way to go about looking at things. While you say my friend being shot at has no bearing on Sunday hunting I would say your are wrong. Quite simply if there is no one hunting on Sunday then there is likely no chance that would happen.... I think you would have to agree with that. Yes the hunter whom pulled the trigger was the problem, I am a firm believer in the saying guns do not harm people, its the people behind guns. We also know that there are a ton of guys and kids out there that shoot then look "Also there are a lot of great skilled and smart hunters out there more so" sadly peoples mistakes end up being what runs our society? Plain and simple there is truth that if he had been out on Sunday instead of Saturday that bonehead whom did not know there bearings would have not been hunting.
Why should a person have to drive to a state park? If they are on land they have permission then whats wrong with that, bullets travel, buckshot travels, I am merely looking at both sides of the issue.
Honestly I don't know how the other states handle this issue. You could in inform though, i love to learn, as I stated i am on the fence with the issue.

Also wanted to state my other side of the fence on the issue, there are a ton of hardworking hunters out there that only get the weekend off. Leaving one day, I feel they deserve that more then one day to enjoy the sport they love, also I feel that if you own land you should pretty much have the right to do what you want to do on it whether it be hunting or not.

Your friend getting shot on Saturday has zero bearing concerning hunting on Sunday. Something such as this has the possibility to happen any day of the week.
Not trying to be smart here but should hunting on Saturday be illegal because your friend was shot on a Saturday? Using your logic, if there was no hunting on Saturday, then your friend would not have been shot.
If someone does not want me hunting on their land on Sunday(assuming it were legal), then they stipulate that if they give me permission.
If I pay the taxes on my family farm, then why should I not be able to hunt on Sunday? I can fish on Sunday, so why can't I hunt?
Other states that allow hunting on Sunday do not have to handle issues because, there really are no issues to handle. I have talked to plenty of hunters from other states and they can't believe we can't hunt on Sunday.

My new friend I do agree with you on your statement pertaining to taxes. I
I know your not trying to play smart either, and neither am I but i'll try to explain it a little better. Hunting on Saturdays is legal right? We agree there, my friend was out on piece of property that borders a piece a huntclub leases. The club was running dogs and the deer came out into the field which borders the woods he was walking the edge of, HIS Property. The deer busts into the field the hunter made a horrible mistake and shoots not using one thing we should all use when discharging a fire arm our brain. My logic is that if he was walking along the woods on a Sunday where hunting was legal then the club would not be running dogs... I think we both agree there. So if he is out on a Sunday on his property he should not have to worry about walking around his property and someone shooting at a deer and missing it and hitting him. The fact there is if you can't hunt on sunday then there should be no one shooting at deer. I really don't understand how thats not logical. I am saying that one day out of the week his chances should be drastically reduced of having the mistake happen and that would be Sunday.
