Opening day VA
#11

JThunts, if he was a shooter, I'd have shot him. You weren't the one running the dogs and they weren't chasing deer... Lets hook up this season, if you're in Bristow, I'm about 5 min. from you near the PW Fairgrounds.
I went bowhunting in Fairfax/Clifton in the afternoon. All I saw were does and didn't shoot any. Buddy of mine took a real nice 8 point about 4 miles from where I was hunting though. I wish I had gone a.m. vice p.m. it warmed up, but I wasn't going to pass up an opening day opportunity. It was still a nice 5 hrs. in the woods, although I was flat beat, mice chewed up my seat/back rest on my new Summit Viper climber so I stood the whole time!!! It should be cooling down towards the end of the week, I forsee more deer being shot then.

I sat from 6:30 to about 11:30 and saw one doe, just could not get a shot. When I left my house it was 72 degrees and when I got home it was 88. Planned to hunt Saturday afternoon but after my sons football game and seeing how the temp was now 93, I decided to skip the hunt! Plan tohead back out Wed and Thursday.

I would love to have gone, but the deer seem to have all disappeared?? Maybe it's the hot weather, I don't know,.., but it seems nothing is on the edge of the fields at all. Maybe there are a few acorns in the woods I guess, but I need a little more visual excitement in order to encourage me to sweat it out! Come on cool breezes!!!

Went out yesterday evening and at 4:30 it was a tad cooler at 84!
I stillwas lucky enough to see9 deer and was able to take a nice doe. It is nice to get that first deer of the new season under your belt though.
It ought to be some good huntingthe next few days with the cooler temps.

Went yesterday p.m. in Clifton and had 15 doe come by w/in 30 yds. in the last 45 min. before dark. Not one buck! Guess this will be a good funnel spot to tag a buck come pre-rut & rut though.

Well I went yesterday as well, saw deer twice, but both when I least expected it. The first being in the back yard w/ my bow on a trailer between the deer and me.The second @ 11 A.M. coming into our as I was driving fertilizer stakes down beside my apple trees. The one time they ever come into the field in day light and I'm driving spikes in the ground with my bow on my 4-wheeler. Never saw it but heard it blow. Got some great pictures on the trail cam section of my website.
