Am I the only person that doesn't bait in Alabama? One of the guys who hunts across the road from us calledme this afternoon saying he saw one of our neighborspulling his 4whlr trailer with a stack of corn bags on the backof the4whlr and trailer.I've also seen, I don't know how many, deer cam pics claiming to be alabama bucks with their heads stuck down in a pile of corn. Does no one worry about getting caught? Its like no one even tries to hide it anymore. Its unreal.
I know it isn't pulling all the deer but it is definitly hurting us and very disheartining to see it done so blantently. The state needs to make it legal for everyone or start doing a better job enforcing it. Crap they sellcorn in every walmart, academy, and country store around. Is there that many people using it to feed squirels?I even heard they had it piled up outside of Marks outdoors (in bham)right next to the feeders they have set up.
Any thoughts from anyone else???

I personally feed some corn during the off season but it's gone before the season comes as the law requires. I always wonder what other laws those people will break. I guess they'll steal your treestand, tresspass, or even steal your truck. I know some guys that would kill several bucks running together but claim to be model citizens. Yes I think the state should change the law or do more enforcement but as we all know that would require more money from us to pay the wardens.

I dont believe it is illegal to set feed out for deer.
Section 9-11-244 prohibits the baiting, feeding and simultaneous hunting of protected
game animals and birds to the extent that the feed material constitutes a lure, attraction or
enticement to, on or over the area being hunted.
Regulation 220-2-.11(7), further establishes a ten (10) day waiting period after
feed has been removed before the area may be hunted.
Thats the law, so if they follow that its not illegal.

That is a nice Alabama buck.
I didn't say it was illegal to feed deer. I'm referring to those who "bait" deer. There is a difference and the law describes that.
I've seen some of our adjoining land owners/leasors taking feeders in and out as well. I've even heard them go off before way off in the distance on a still afternoon. All you can do is tell the game warden and let them handle it their own way. Which I guess is practically nothing. I've yet to understand how FL has about 4-5 wardens per county and AL averages less than 1 per county. They just don't have enough support.

I put corn out all year long, but only in front of my camera during the season and I never hunt over it, believe it or not. I've got three different pieces of property I hunt so I move the camera from one piece to the other and put corn out to see what kind of deer are in the area. It gets me excited to know what I'm hunting, plus it helps in judging deer in the woods. Somebody I take would be less likely to kill a button buck or a spike if they've seen pictures and know what's there and what to look for. I never hunt over the corn, game wardens are running all over the place and I would be the one guy to get caught, plus it takes away from the challenge and excitement of planning a hunt. If hunting was easy I wouldn't be so addicted and excited about it, I probably wouldn't hunt. When I move my camera from one piece to another, I hunt the other two places after the corn has been eaten up while I'm gettin pics from the other piece. If everybody around me wouldn't bait deer and hunt over corn it would be easier for me to get pics without baiting, but there's always somebody around me hunting over corn. Honestly I wish corn wasn't so readily available everywhere during the season, it really ruins everything for people who actually like to HUNT for deer.

It doesn't take corn to get a good deer on your cam. I got this dude 4nights this week. No corn. I know for a fact that there is corn around me. To many empty bags lining the roads and the three deer we have taken on this piece of property this year have been slam full of it.

Would it be any different if I put out a mineral attractant? What if I used c'mere deer, would that be different? There's a ton of attractants that can be used to draw in deer for pictures and what-not. And I know corn doesn't have to be used to get good pictures, but in a situation where you hunt three pieces of property, youhaven't been able to scout one or two places, andyou're running out of time to hunt, it's easier to draw deer in with an attractant or bait to get pictures. Here's a picture I got this past March of a deer without using corn.

No difference. Mineral blocks, c'mere deer (dry formula), any non-plantedeatableattractant isunder the same ubreallaas corn andare all considered as baiting if you are hunting over it. Unless you are spraying it on your food plot or treating your sead with it it's considered bait. I hunt 2 different properties myself and as most people only get to hunt the weekends. I'd ratherkill him using my hunting skills than kill a deer over bait or even use it to attract deer for my "deer cam".I personally wish they would just go ahead and make it legal and get it over with. Apparently everyone is doing it anyways. You can bet that lease prices will go through the roof when they do though.

Well like I said earlier, I wish corn wasn't so readily available everywhere at such low prices. Wal-Mart, all the outdoors stores, I really wish people couldn't get it so easily. But it's there, and people are gonna buy it, and they will put it out and hunt over it too. All the hunting clubs around our private property are hunting over corn piles, it makes me sick to know they're killing nice bucks over corn. I'm like you, I would much rather HUNT for the deer after I get em on camera, not sit by a corn pile and wait on em to come fill their gut. Corn is just an easy way to make sure I get most of the deer in the area on camera. If Ihunted over corn I would have a lot more to show for it than just one buck this year. Even if I don't kill the amount of deer they kill over corn, at least I'm having fun and still get a thrill out of hunting ya know.
